When should we book our flights and accommodations?
We recommend booking flights and accommodations by November 2025 to get the best rates and availability. Porto is a popular summer destination, and things book up quickly, especially in June. We’ll be sharing a few hotel and Airbnb suggestions soon, including the venue itself (with a 10% discount) and more options nearby. If you’d like to extend your trip and explore more of Portugal (highly recommended!), we suggest building in a few extra days on either side of the wedding weekend.
Do I need a passport or visa to travel to Portugal?
Yes, a valid U.S. passport is required to enter Portugal. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. For most U.S. travelers, no visa is needed for stays under 90 days. That said, Portugal (and much of Europe) is expected to roll out a new travel authorization system called ETIAS before our wedding—it's not a visa, but a quick online form required for entry. We’ll keep everyone updated once it goes into effect!
What airport should I fly into?
You'll want to fly into Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto. It’s the city's main international airport and is about 20 minutes by taxi or Uber to the city center. There are some direct flights from major U.S. cities, or you can connect through hubs like Lisbon, Madrid, or Paris. We recommend checking Google Flights or Hopper to track good deals as they become available.
Is there a dress code for the wedding or related events?
Yes! We’d love for everyone to dress up and have fun with it.
Welcome Party (June 12): Cocktail attire. Think stylish and festive—cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, blazers, and dress shoes.
Wedding Day (June 13): Formal attire. Suits and ties or tuxes for men, and gowns or cocktail dresses for women. We're getting married in Portugal, so bright colors and bold accessories are highly encouraged—have fun with your look!
What’s the best way to get around Porto?
Porto is a very walkable city, especially in the historic center where most of the action is. That said, there are plenty of ways to get around:
Walking: The best way to soak up the charm of Porto’s cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and riverside views.
Public Transit: The metro, trams, and buses are reliable and affordable. You can buy a rechargeable Andante card at any metro station.
Rideshare & Taxis: Uber and Bolt both operate in Porto and are easy to use.
Rental Cars: Not recommended for city travel (parking is limited and streets are narrow), but could be great if you’re planning day trips outside the city.
We’ll share more location-specific guidance closer to the date, including how to get to and from the venue!
Can I bring a plus-one or children?
We’re so excited to celebrate with our closest friends and family, and due to venue limitations, we’re keeping the guest list to adults only and those formally invited on the invitation. Thank you for understanding—it means so much to us!
What language is spoken in Portugal, and will I need to know it?
Portuguese is the official language of Portugal, but don’t worry—English is widely spoken in Porto, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas. Learning a few key phrases like “obrigado/a” (thank you) is always appreciated by locals, but you’ll have no trouble getting around without being fluent.
Is there a wedding registry or gift suggestion?
Your presence in Portugal means the world to us, and truly, that’s the best gift we could ask for! If you’d like to contribute something extra, our wedding registry will be available right here on our website closer to the big day.
What should I do if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
We want everyone to feel comfortable and well-fed during the celebrations! Please let us know about any dietary restrictions or allergies when you RSVP, and we’ll make sure your needs are accommodated.
What’s the weather like in Porto in June?
June is one of the best times to visit Porto! Expect warm, sunny days and cooler evenings. Daytime temperatures typically range from the high 60s to mid-70s°F, with little rain. We recommend bringing light layers, sunscreen, and a jacket or shawl for evenings—especially if you’ll be out along the water.
Will transportation be provided to the ceremony or events?
For those staying at the venue, we will have transportation to and from the welcome party location. For everyone else, please read the info under the question above, "What's the best way to get around Porto?" for convenient and cost-effective travel methods.
What currency is used in Portugal? Will I need cash?
Portugal uses the Euro (€). Most places in Porto accept credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard), but it’s a good idea to carry a small amount of cash for taxis, tips, or small shops and cafes. ATMs are easy to find around the city, and rates are generally better than airport exchange counters.
Will my phone work in Portugal?
If you have an international plan, your phone should work just fine in Portugal—just check with your carrier about roaming charges. Many guests opt to enable an international day pass or use eSIM services like Airalo for data while abroad. Free Wi-Fi is also widely available at hotels, restaurants, and cafes.
What should I pack for the trip and events?
Here’s a quick packing list: Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates). Formalwear for the wedding (see our dress code!). Cocktail attire for the welcome party. Comfortable shoes for cobblestone streets. Light layers for warm days and cool evenings. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a travel adapter (Portugal uses Type C and F plugs). Any meds or toiletries you may need (just in case!)
